Mission 01 - 28 January 2019 –01 February 2019

STE followed up the assessment of the previous mission on existing food safety, feed safety and animal health laboratory network, current capacity to perform all the necessary tests required by international standards, identification of gaps and needs to achieve full operational capacity.

Following to this mission, Experts drafted an assessment report on Laboratories describing the activities of
each organizational unit, the personnel needed and the list of equipment, infrastructure and capabilities, costs included.
2.11.2 Develop a long term strategy for the reorganization of food safety, animal health and feed safety laboratory network establishing type, functions and number of reference and accredited testing laboratories and type of analysis to be performed. The strategy shall specify clearly the tasks of each laboratory identified. For this important task, a WG shall be nominated including representatives from relevant Institutions. The strategy may support the establishment of a dedicated laboratory under the responsibility of MoA-ARD;

Mission 01 - 27 August 2019 –30 August 2019
Short Term Experts (STEs): Dr. Giacomo MIGLIORATI and Dr. Francesco POMILIO

Following to this mission, experts drafted a strategy for the development of a network of laboratories able in
satisfying the analytical needs of the Lebanese Veterinary Services in the areas of animal health and food safety.
A project hypothesis is also proposed for the construction of a laboratory with the function of a central veterinary
laboratory for animal health and food safety, accompanied by information on the structures, equipment, personnel
and related costs for its construction and commissioning.
2.11.3 Prepare a list of necessary equipment for the upgrading of laboratory capacity to perform requested analysis in the field of animal health, food and feed safety. This activity shall be implemented taking into consideration the outcome of the activity 2.5 on developing of sampling plans for contaminants.
