Veterinary public health is an important basic component for a robust food
safety system. One of the
main Institutions responsible for food safety in Lebanon is the Ministry of
Agriculture that is committed
to provide consumers with safe and high quality agricultural and processed
meeting Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) requirements.
The necessity of legal harmonization, capacity building and reorganization
of the veterinary services
emerges therefore as an issue of utmost priority to guarantee adequate
protection of Lebanese
consumers and facilitate the trade of agricultural and processed agricultural
The current project will support the Ministry of Agriculture in addressing
the above issues and will
implement activities based on recommendations and results of the major
previously implemented in Lebanon.
